Although software resetter Canon Pixma iP1980 or resetter canon Pixma iP1900 series not available on the internet now. Doesn’t mean there is no way to reset the printer series. My opinion canon Pixma iP 1980 is new version of Canon Pixma iP 1880 so the reset methode for canon iP 1880 can be applied to Reset Canon iP1980. I also tested using reset methode for Canon iP1700 on it’s work on several Printer Canon iP1900 series.
For permanent reset after doing the manual reset you must using software restter. Software resetter such as iPtool and general tool for canon iP 1800 can be used to reset waste ink counter on the Canon iP1980 and Canon iP1900 series. To reset Waste Ink Tank canon iP1980 or iP1900 series follow this steps:

He say have tried it to Canon Pixma IP1980 and it perfectly works without using General Tools or IPtools.
- Unplug the power of your printer
- press and hold the power button
- Plug in the power while holding the power button
- then using a pen, press the Cover detection button (this button is pressed every time you close the cover, this button tells the printer if the cover is open or not. you will need to use a pen or any object that can reach the button since you cannot close the cover while holding the power button.)
- release the power button
- release the cover detection button
- close the cover and turn your printer on. done

CANON PIXMA IP1900 is just a successor of ip1880 PARTS & MANUALS ARE THE SAME but a little bit faster than 1880 (before using this resetter you must reset your printer manually)

@FZ my printer got alternating blinking. Tried following the steps from J-Tech until click device ID only, when Im clearing waste ink the general tool is not responding. When the printer is turned off the general tool is back to normal. Need your help. 🙁
@sonric68, before tried reset methode from J-Tech you must reset manual the printer. reset manual for Canon iP1980 such as reset manual in canon iP1700. thanks

it works for me but it is only on service mode, i still use the general tool while in service mode.

I reset my cartridge in ip1900 by J-TECH instruction it’s ok but after power off my printer and then power on my monitor said cartridge is empty. Why this is happen? What am I doing wrong?
@Fz, What service tool do you mean? If you mean General Tool I used it it’s work but after turn off and turn on it’s back to earlier status empty. ;/ what can I do? i’ve tried all instructions and always return to empty status after shut down.;/

what is the problem of canon 1980 if the green light blink once and the orange light blinks seven times? and every time i print it says ink cartridge is not properly installed, can anyone help me how to troubleshoot this,pls….

Good day! I resetted my printer as a manual resetting and it’s work normally… but after the printer restarted (power off & on again) the dialog said again… “the ink absorber is full”
I tried the step two (software resetter) but the program (GeneralTool.exe) says… “Wait a moment” I wait a long long time but no happen… always says “Wait a moment” and the GeneralTool wezard says “Not responding” what is the problem of this? please help me!!!

@mac2x : I got the same problem before, but after i tried another day…it wasn’t say “not responding” again. I dont know why, maybe you can try once more.after you ON your printer and follow the step
1. hold the printer power
2. release the cable from the power while you still holding the power printer
3. plug the cable again
4. release your hand from the power printer
5. ON your printer
just directly use your general ip tool,,,,,as the procedure ,,,

tip: to win7 x64 based machine use compatibility and run the general tool as win xp application and as administrator.
further, you may have to undergo process 1 (manual) first then without turning – off the printer, proceed with process 2 (General Tool)
