Coming so far, we bet your PC has already gotten alway from the malfare. If you didn’t fully understand the procedures I wrote, or you’re in no mood to carefully follow them, keep moving on : )

I use a Windows 8.1 machine. A few months back I unsuccessfully tried to install Dassault Systemes' CATIA program. The installation did not complete successfully, but a new program was shown in the Programs and Features utility nonetheless. After a long time, I tried to install the program again. However, this time, the installer fails to start altogether. I am guessing that this has something to do with the failed install. I tried to uninstall the program through the Program and Features utilty, and managed to uninstall the main program, but the prerequisties program is still installed. Whenever I try to uninstall it, it says that there is some Dassault Systemes software still installed and asks me to remove it first. However, there is no other program from the said company that is installed and being shown in the Programs utility. I tried to manually delete the Dassault folder from Program Files, and also from the Users/Appdata folders. Nothing has worked so far. I need CATIA to be up and running as soon as possible. So, I am thinking about either resetting the PC, or setting up a virtual drive with Windows 7 or XP setup. Before taking either step, should I try to uninstall the program in safe mode first? If I am resetting the laptop, should I keep the activation key for Windows 8 ready (I upgraded to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8 through the Store)?
